When I first met the guys working on Deepworld, a 2D Sandbox-style game of building similar to Minecraft, at GDC in March, I informed them that Deepworld would be more than they anticipated. They've had a lot of experience developing servers and software, however, running a game this large requires a significant investment. MINECRAFT EVENTS SERVERS seem to have reached an agreement. MINECRAFT EVENTS SERVERS has inspired a Kickstarter project to raise funds early for servers and development.

The group is offering several prizes to those who support it, including your own personal servers and worlds, art books and other swag, as well as the possibility of receiving your own items, your name, or even pictures in the game itself. The goal is US$20,000, all in all and as of this writing, the guys have collected around $4,000. They claim they'd like to pursue the project full-time, and this money will allow them to do that.

I definitely wish them well. Deepworld looks nice, and as I said when I first saw it, the Mac (and iOS) would benefit from a game that's like this.
