Jason Momoa To Star In Minecraft Movie For Warner Bros

Warner Bros. is looking for another star to join Aquaman and Dune. Jason Momoa is in final talks to be a part of the live-action Minecraft film, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Napoleon Dynamite filmmaker Jared Hess will direct the project based on the popular video game.



Mary Parent, Dune producer, and Roy Lee will co-produce. Jill Messick will receive a posthumous production credit for her work in the creation of the film before she passed away in the year 2018. Executive producers include Jon Berg, Cale Boyter and Jon Spaihts. The video game is produced by Mojang Studios in Sweden. Vu Bui and Lydia Winters also produce the film.



Minecraft, which debuted in 2011 allows players to use blocks to create structures and worlds. It was a huge hit and attracted more than 100 million players in a short time. Welcome to my home Microsoft acquired Mojang for $2.5 billion in 2014.



Warners has been working on an idea that is based on the game for years, with Shawn Levy and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney among those who have been tapped to direct.



Gaming films have enjoyed a hot streak in recent years with 20th Century's Ryan Reynolds' Free Guy franchise and Paramount's Sonic sequel launching hits in the last year.



Momoa and Warners have Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom due out in March 2023. The film is the sequel of Aquaman (2018) which made $1 billion. Momoa is repped by WME and Edelstein Laird. Hess is represented by UTA and Sloane Offer.
