We have tried adding secrets to the game before. Small things, like obscure crafting recipes or weird habits, and every thing always will get found out immediately. Regardless of how obscure we make a brand new feature, it's totally documented within hours of a new launch. This is awesome, and a great instance of how devoted some Minecraft gamers are, but it surely also means we will not actually conceal anything good in the game even if we tried.

So some time in the past, I did some deliberately obscure code in the title screen to change two letters round, making it say "Minceraft" (previous running gag, there's even a "minceraft" mockup t shirt design we did) as a substitute of "Minecraft" on each 10000th sport launch or so, and nobody found it! I was so happy about that, I finally knew something about the game the gamers didn't know. Minecraft server list

Flash ahead to this GDC a number of days ago, I am doing an interview with Chris Hecker, and he asks me if there's anything no one has present in the sport, and that i say sure. I should've stated no, however I stated yes. Then I start getting emails and tweets about it, people begin getting excited, and understanding how minor the key is, I try to tell individuals it's a very minor secret. That appears to gasoline the flames. A reporter from a well known gaming site wants to run an article on it, and that i tell him not to. Getting folks hyped up about an intentional typo isn't actually a good approach to spend everyone's time.

There's quite a lot of cool stuff to study from this, though. One is that it Is possible to cover stuff in plain sight, however once individuals go looking for it, they may discover it. One other thing is that folks seem to want to get excited over things, even in case you inform them it's nothing main.

I'm impressed and relieved you found it. I will not comment on it exterior of this subreddit.
