I know many people may be wondering how Realms compares to Minecraft server hosting, what features Realms has, or even what the heck realms is! I'll be glad to help anyone who needs more information about Realms or whether Realms is worth the investment.

What is Minecraft Realms, exactly? Minecraft Realms is basically server hosting that Mojang (creators and creators of Minecraft) has created so that family and friends can play in the same world.

Minecraft Realms Pros

Minecraft Realms offers a lot of great features that make it very easy to use. To start a survival realm, you only need to click 3 buttons. Then you can play! Realms also allows you play from a few select Minigames that only takes a few clicks from you're mouse and you are ready to play with your friends. It also automatically backs your world up, which is a very useful feature. Minecraft servers This could be useful if you fall into lava or someone griefs your house. You can also edit the Realm's name and description. You can also check how much time is left on your server before your subscription ends by pressing one button. Realms is extremely user-friendly, as it takes only a few clicks.

Minecraft Realms Cons

There are many great things about Minecraft Realms. But there are also many downsides. There is no world editing. You can't choose super-flat, extra biomes, or any other world. It just brings you into a normal Minecraft environment. You can still use commands in your world, but command blocks are not yet permitted. So, the creation of server management systems cannot be done. Another problem with Minecraft Realms is players. You can only invite 20 players into your world. However, your world can only support 10 players at a time. I find that the minigame maps are nice, but I wish they had more. They currently have five minigames: Cake Defense 2, Blocks vs. Zombies (the Walls), Autospleef and Dash of Doom. These minigames may be fun, but they can get repetitive very quickly. My friends and I would be entertained for hours if we had a wide variety of minigames. Another problem is the price. While 13 dollars (8 euros) may not seem like a lot, it is a good amount more than what minecraft server hosts offer. Realms does not have some of the features that make Minecraft more fun.

Overview: Realms is really nice if you just want a simple world to play on with your friends. If you want to host a large server or make money off it, it is NOT recommended. It is also very useful if your server skills are not great. You can easily modify things by clicking a few buttons. If you want a large, public server, Realms isn't for you, and you should instead find a good server hosting company.
