After her seven-year old son spent $4000 on games, a mother-of-two accused Apple of allowing her children to spend money online. Tlauncher

Abi Smith received a number of emails from Harry who confirmed that Harry had made more than 60 in-app purchases, totalling PS1,218 without her consent.

She had set a password on Harry's iPad but Harry managed to switch it with her thumbprint. Then she spent PS792 on virtual cat food and other purchases.

The 40-year-old, from Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire, was forced to take out loans to pay off the bills and has now hit out at Apple for initially refusing to issue her a refund.

Abi Smith had set a password on Harry seven-year-old's iPad. But Harry, a smart little boy, took it off and replaced it with his thumbprint in a playful attempt to protect Reggie four (pictured together).

Harry bought eight lots of cat food in virtual form for PS99 each on The Battle Cats game, as well as making several purchases on Minecraft for PS48.99 each, six on the popular game Among Us and smaller purchases of PS1.99.

Apple has since confirmed it will reimburse Ms. Smith the money.

Ms. Smith is a Pennsylvanian on furlough, is now asking Apple to add an extra layer of security.

She stated that the games are addictive and encourage children to spend more money. Apple allows children to play on this platform.

"Harry did something that was as innocent as a child could. He didn't want his younger brother going on his iPad , so he scribbled his thumbprint so he couldn't get in.

"Normally the guy would come in and ask me if I could download this. I'd say yes or no.

"It has not been my experience before and it will not happen again." Security features are in place but for me, it's not enough. A CVC is a simple enhancement to security.

'I'm furloughed. I have already seen an increase in my monthly payment, and then it was completely clean. I needed to borrow money to pay my bills.

"My son has additional requirements and I'm struggling," she said. This is unfair.

After Harry spent 99p and racked up a four-figure debt, she called the games 'dangerous'.

Harry offered to pay back his mother by using money from his own pocket.

She added: 'The one purchase I'd ever made with the account was 99p. I was completely unaware until they told me that your card details automatically save.

"There should be a choice, and If there was I'd say no. That completely avoids this happening with kids. This is what I would like to see happen with Apple.

"I had security settings in place, but I've got a very clever boy who managed to put his thumbprint onto.'

Ms Smith claims that her bank did not allow her to stop her payments because they were authorised. She then asked to refund each purchase online but claims Apple twice refused to refund her money.

Harry was crying when she confronted him and offered to pay his debts with his own money.

Apple declined to comment, but highlighted its 'Ask To Buy' feature, which sends a request to a family member each time a child tries to make a purchase.

The parent, or account holder, can then approve or decline the request to prevent issues like Ms. Smith's.

PONOS, the developer of The Battle Cats, Microsoft, who own Minecraft and Inner Sloth, who developed Among Us, were all reached for comments.
